The Vanishing Watchdog: Inside Georgia’s Assault on Independent Media

CFOM travelled to Brussels, Belgium to attend the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) summit. The summit is organised by a consortium of organisations engaged in media freedom work designed to bring journalists, policymakers and other stakeholders together to discuss concerns of media freedom.
In this episode, we speak to Elena Rodina about the summit and the work of the MFRR. We also speak to Renate Schroeder, Director of the European Federation of Journalists, about the challenges journalists in Europe are facing, and we highlight the current threats that journalism in Georgia is facing with foreign agent laws being used to silence reporting.
We speak to Lia Chakhunashvili, Executive Director of the Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics, and Irma Dimitradze, Communications Manager and journalist at Gazeti Batumelebi, about the situation in Georgia and how journalists are fighting to continue delivering independent reporting.
