Why Do We Dig?
Discover how local volunteers helped uncover new stories at Creswell Crags in this short film. See what was found and why it matters.
This film, created by Wesley Thomas Gee, accompanied the temporary exhibition, 'Archaeology at Creswell Crags: the community experience'.
The exhibition looked at the excavations at Creswell Crags, which have been running since 2019, and led by Dr Kevin Kuykendall from the University of Sheffield. Rather than excavating the caves, the current excavations focus on the landscape of the gorge and surrounding area.
In 2023, a community programme was developed, which recruited volunteers from the local area. The exhibition looked at the excavations from the aspect of the community programme, and showcases some of the newly-excavated items.
The exhibition ran in 2023.
