How Urban Flooding Can Spread Harmful Bacteria and Viruses

Former visitor Dr Sophie Scutt talks about how Illumina sequencing of eDNA in water samples can monitor the unseen disease risk of flooding and how the NEOF Visitor Facility team supported her work.

Sophie was trained in lab techniques by the NEOF team during her PhD research.

Here she describes how this training enabled her to study the impact of urban flooding on the risk of harmful microorganisms (bacteria and viruses) spreading in the environment.
