Connecting Bees to Bluetooth

Can we help the environment by tracking bees with bluetooth?

Christopher Noroozi, a PhD student from the School of Computer Science, is tracking bumblebees with bluetooth tags to see the flights bees take across a landscape when foraging and exploring. Large transmitters send data to the tags, then machine learning can be used to reconstruct the probable flight path the bee took.

This helps in looking at the bees' colonial behaviour and how they react to changes in their environment, and being able to monitor pollinator health, see what they do and also manage land to improve pollinator efficacy.
