To mark a decade of research at The Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation (LC3M), Professor David Beerling is joined by researchers who have been part of the Centre's journey from the very beginning. Through a series of conversations, they reflect on the growth of Enhanced Rock Weathering research, the science behind carbon dioxide removal, and the interdisciplinary collaborations that have shaped the field.
Established in 2016 with a £10 million award from the Leverhulme Trust, LC3M brings together world-leading experts from across the natural and social sciences to investigate whether Enhanced Rock Weathering can safely and effectively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while supporting sustainable agriculture. The Centre's research spans earth system modelling, crop and soil science, large-scale field trials, sustainability assessment, economics and public engagement.
Across the series, guests share insights into the challenges, breakthroughs and lessons learned over the past ten years, offering a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on how a pioneering idea evolved into one of the world's leading carbon dioxide removal research programmes. From the early days of building the Centre and its research team to advances in modelling, atmospheric science and social science, these conversations chart the development of a field that is helping to shape the future of climate change mitigation.
