The exhibition, originally installed in the Western Bank Library exhibition space from 24 January to 11 June 2022, displayed two hundred original drawings, plans and photographs from the Orton and Spooner Collection, made possible by a grant from the National Manuscripts Conservation Trust (NMCT) and the University of Sheffield Library.
George Orton, Sons & Spooner Ltd were one of the most significant fairground ride and equipment manufacturers in Britain between the Victorian era and the middle of the twentieth century. The exhibition explored the history of the company, the evolution of fairground rides, fairground architecture, physics and engineering and fairground art.
This online series showcases some digital excerpts from the exhibition, including a series of short documentaries on traditional fairground artwork and a 3D tour of the original, physical exhibition.
