You Be The Judge

Discover the complexities of judicial sentencing disparities with our innovative, courtroom-themed exhibit and web app.

This interactive experience is based on Dr. Angela Sorsby's research and created by Sheffield-based digital artist and producer Ben Carlin, who has extensive experience in creating interactive media.

At the heart of the exhibit is a custom arcade cabinet where users employ a judge's gavel to answer true or false questions about sentencing.

Animated infographics provide background information, making complex legal terms and concepts accessible, while the whack-a-mole style gameplay makes the experience engaging, unique, and unforgettable.

Participants receive a score at the end of their session, with a QR code linking to a microsite for further exploration of Angela's research and a short questionnaire.

The exhibit is not just an interactive experience; it's a tool to raise awareness, subtly nudging us towards a more balanced justice system.

The foundation research of this project has fed into policy and is cited in POSTbrief 52 ‘The Use of Short Prison Sentences in England and Wales’.
