Using Environmental DNA to Track Axolotls in Mexico
Dr Alejandro Maeda-Obregon talks about using eDNA to monitor the critically endangered Axolotl and endemic fish in Mexico, and how access to the NEOF Visitor Facility supported his research.

To support his PhD research, Alejandro received training in lab work and analysing environmental DNA (eDNA) by the NEOF team.
Here he describes how this training helped him to look for the presence of the critically endangered Axolotl (a type of salamander) and rare endemic fish in Lake Xochimilco, a World Heritage Site in Mexico.
