Sounds of the Cosmos: The Future

Explore dark matter, distant planets and the future of astronomy with Professor Paul Crowther, Holst's The Planets and spectacular images of space.

Part of Sounds of the Cosmos, Space Week
18 Sep 2014 20:40

What are some of the biggest unanswered questions about our universe, and how can astronomers begin to solve them?

In the final chapter of Sounds of the Cosmos, Professor Paul Crowther explores some of the questions at the heart of modern astrophysics. Discover what scientists know about mysterious dark matter, how astronomers search for planets around other stars and what new telescopes could reveal about the universe.

Professor Crowther also looks at the technology helping astronomers see deeper into space, including the James Webb Space Telescope and the Extremely Large Telescope.

The science is accompanied by Gustav Holst's The Planets, with spectacular images of space from NASA, the European Space Agency and the European Southern Observatory.
