How is data used on BBC Own It?
Discover what happened to children’s data when they used the BBC Own It app, created to help young people stay safe and in control online.
BBC Own It was a free app designed by the BBC to support, help and advise children when they use their phones to chat and explore the online world, without adult supervision. It was an experiment which aimed to give children more control of their personal data.
This animation shows what happened to data.
Living with Data Project
Living With Data was a research project which explored people’s thoughts and feelings about uses of personal data by public sector organisations.
We produced visualisations of six specific data uses and asked people what they thought of them. We produced animations of the visualised data uses to inform the public about ways in which personal data gets used, and as resources for other projects.
We explain our choices and process on this page and share some quotes from our participants here.
