Community Energy Projects in Africa

An online exhibition looking at the people and projects bringing sustainable energy solutions to communities in Ethiopia, Malawi and Mozambique

Watch this series of documentary films and short videos following the people working on the ground to bring sustainable, community energy solutions to Ethiopia, Malawi and Mozambique. These films were produced as part of the Community Energy Systems and Sustainable Energy Transitions in Ethiopia, Malawi and Mozambique (CESET) project led by Professor Vanesa Castan Broto.

About the CESET Project

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG7) calls for “affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” by 2023. The CESET project focuses on how renewable community energy systems can contribute to sustainable energy development and be a solution for universal access to energy, particularly for those living in rural areas and vulnerable groups.

On the Ground Experiences in Malawi and Ethiopia

In these two documentary films, hear from the people involved in the CESET project in Malawi and Ethiopia about their work on the community energy projects in their countries.

Mini Grid Projects in Malawi

In September 2022 the CESET team travelled to Malawi for its annual CESET meeting hosted by Mzuzu University where they heard from community energy projects about their experiences in setting up and operationalizing mini grids in their communities.

This series of short videos show presentations from representatives about their experiences in setting up and operationalizing mini grids in their communities.
