Sounds of the Cosmos: Stars and Star Birth

Discover how stars are born, explore different types of stars and see spectacular space images set to Holst’s The Planets.

Part of Sounds of the Cosmos, Space Week
18 Sep 2014 20:10

How are stars born, and what makes one star different from another?

In Stars and Star Birth, the second chapter of Sounds of the Cosmos, Professor Paul Crowther explores the science of stars and star formation.

Discover more about our Sun and how it compares with other types of stars, from faint dwarf stars to enormous hypergiants. Professor Crowther also looks at where stars come from and how they form inside vast stellar nurseries in space.

The science is brought to life through spectacular images from NASA and the European Space Agency, alongside a filmed orchestral performance of Gustav Holst’s The Planets.
