The archaeological cave sites at Creswell Crags, including the UK’s first confirmed Palaeolithic cave art, serve as the key inspiration for Layered Presence. The installation was created by artist Vanesa van Vlerken and informed by the archaeological research of Dr Kevin Kuykendall. Step inside a sensory environment combining sound, scent and large-scale painting. The work explores how early humans experienced shared space and belonging, tracing connections across deep time. Expect to see gestural abstract paintings with varied, decisive mark-making.
