The Birth of Hip Hop

This project explored the impact and influence of the Bible in street art. In collaboration with Dr Katie Edwards from the Department of Biblical Studies, artist and illustrator Kid Acne used biblical characters and stories as the basis of a series of murals on spaces around Sheffield city centre.

The process of creating the murals was documented in photographs and on film to be presented at the Festival of the Mind. There was also a presentation from Dr Katie Edwards on her research on biblical literacy and street art, using Kid Acne’s work as an example of contemporary biblical literacy.
