Multi-layered ceramic capacitors are the foundation of the electronics industry, without them electrical systems would not work. They control and manage the electricity in circuits in nearly every device we own. Demand from computing, automotive, aerospace and telecommunication industries make this a $10 billion global market and it is estimated that over 3 trillion units are made and sold each year. By controlling and manipulating the atomic composition and structure in the ceramic materials they are made from, researchers at the University of Sheffield are able to meet the demands for the next generation of mobile phones and electric cars.
